Preliminary Task

This is my preliminary task flat plan. for mt preliminanary i hadt to make a front cover and a contentents page for an Acland Burghley school magazine. First of all i made flatplans of what i wanted it to look like. then i made the actual design on Photoshop CS3.

When you compare both my flat-plans and my actual ABS magazine you can see that not everything that i originally planned happened. But you can see the progress i made, if you compare my Acland Burghley school magazine and my music magazine you will notice how much my knowledge for using photoshop increased. I learnt how to edit images to give a better effect

Flat Plans

These are my flat plans for my original music magazine. when i first drew my flatplans i thought that the design and layout would be very easy to make. Now that i have finished my product i have realised that the making of my magazine was not going to be as easy as what i expected. Our maing goal was to ocmplete a music magazine and not use any found images, this was difficult as my original masthead was going to have a bomb and firwe like an explotion. I could not fufil this as i was not ably to take a picture of an actual bomb and fire that resembles an explosion. on the first page of my content page I had a very unigue design to be under the tittle, this was very difficult to attempt as i could not have a steady hand and was not able to do this on Photoshop CS3.

Music Magazine

This is the result of my music magazine. i have come a long way from the making of my preliminary task. i have successfully learnt how to use CS3 to produce a music magazine. Now my magazine can be published.

Through out the process of making my publication I have used other Music websites and Magazine cover layouts to help me create the perfect layout to suite my magazine. I have used many magazines for inspiration such as BLACK BEAT and VIBE magazine. I referred to these magazines because they resemble Reggeaton so I think they would have helped me create a better looking magazine for my target audience. I found that referring to these magazines and websites helped me a lot in the making of my music magazine.

These are just examples of what Reggeaton is. This is the type of music

Latin teenagers are listening to. This music is the Latin version of R&B

and is what it closely resembles. In my music magazine this is the type

of music that will be promoted and the magazine will work around this

genre of music. My magazine will also talk about the progression of

reggeaton and how it is being recognised by the America music industry.

Note the second video it features a well known American music R&B artist.

Looking back at your preliminary task, of designing the front page of a school magazine, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? During my preliminary task I had to create a school magazine for Acland Burghley, this had to include an image of a student on the front cover. I had to create the front cover and a contents page. this prepared me for the making of my actual music magazine. I think that the preliminary task helped me understand the programme and the task was very useful to me because it was like a taster of what i was to expect when making my actual music magazine. After using the programme Photoshop CS3 for my preliminary task I felt comfortable using the programme again. Now after finishing off my music magazine I feel very comfortable because I was prepared for this task and I feel that I have successfully created a perfectly presentable music magazine.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of consrtucting this product? Through out the making of my magazine I have used a range of new technology. I have learnt how to use an APPLE Mac to a good standard. I have learnt how to navigate my through an APPLE Mac and i am now able to log in and carry out any task, this is new to me as all my life I have only used normal PC and the layout of a PC and a APPLE Mac are very different. At the start you can get very confused and work is really hard to get through. I have also successfully achieved a considerable amount of knowledge to make my own productions on Photoshop CS3. In the process of making my magazine I have learnt how to use the programme efficiently and now using the programme is very easy whereas at the beginning of the course I would not have know how to navigate my way around.

I have realized the patience that is needed when working with certain software for the first time. It takes up plenty of time to get use to a software and once you realise nearly all your time is up, so when working with new programs patience is needed.

How did you attract the audience for your magazine for your music publication? Before anything i studied the types of things that my target audience will be interested in. I studied the places which my older target may appeal to like Latin clubs therefore i will advertise my magazine in latin clubs like LA BOMBA, MANGO and LATIN FLAVA. the magazines will be distribute for the first time free of charge so that they can get to know the magazine and in future the will buy the magazine. Also from experience i know that my younger target will endure from free cd's and chart list of the latest music so i have made sure that i will use this too attract my younger target audience. So for the younger target audience i will attract them buy advertising my magazine at 16+ clubs mainly in seven sisters and south London as i know that this is where you will find many young Latinos. Also the color scheme is black and red this goes with the name Explosion, this speaks to my audience because the colors are relatively noticeable and these colors when advertised on posters will turn many heads.

My magazine will also be advertised on websites more visited by young adults such as Face book and Myspace. The colors will attract them to click on the link and browse the website. The colors where chosen because they resemble the Latin culture more. When you think of a latin country you think of vibrant colors and, my magazine will try to use this to its advantage and every monthly issue will have a separate color scheme also the website will be updated and will match the color scheme of the magazine. the separation of colors every month will give the magazine a recognizable trade mark and the magazine will be known for the creative idea of the funky color scheme. People will start to recognize the magazine more.

Who would be the audience for your music magazine? The main target for my magazine wiould be Latinos aged between 15-20.They would be the type of teens that love music and going out with friends, their hobbies will consist on just going shopping and being surrounded by other teens all the time. They would be in education but music is all they would be thinking about. Music will be their motivation and. They would be the ones who feel that they need to be updated on a regular basis about music and that buying a music magazine does this for them. My magazine will succesfully update the readers with the latest music releases this draws in the young target audience as music is very important to those of my target audience. I will also have an older target audience,18-20. My magazine will appeal to them as it will inform them of new Latin club openings such as LA BOMBA. My magazine will advertise their openings and offer readers over the age of 18 to win tickets.This draws in older readers as well as younger ones.

What kind of institution might distribute your music magazine and why?I can get an idea of what kind of media institution might distribute my media product from looking at magazines such as VIBE and BLACKBEAT. the only difference with these magazines and my magazine is that mine relates more to a Latin range whereas VIBE and BLACKBEAT relate to anyone who is a fan of R&B and HIP HOP. my magazine "THE LATIN EXPLOSION" really relates to those who are mainly Latin and or are a fan of spanish reggeaton.

The magazine will have to sold at places where my target audience are more likely and be advertised at well known places such as HMV. HMV get a wide range of customers each day, this will the ideal place for my magazine to be sold and advertised. The magazine will also be advertised on certain music channels that suite my target audience best such as MTV.

How does your magazine represent particular social groups?My magazine is aimed at young adults particulary those of a Latin background. The magazine is aimed at latin social goups it will keep them in the know of any relative events or happenings that realtes to their interests e.g. if a certain artist which music is targeted at young Latin youths, comes to London for a concert then the magazine will advertise this. Also my magazine is promting a new fresh upcoming artist, the artist is young and she photographed and her photo is both on the front cover and the double page spread. The fact that the magazine is promting a young artist could lure in more young adults to be interested and make them want to buy the magazine As not many magazines advertise such young upcoming artist, as they go for the more already famous artists and bands.
The magazine also updates the target audience with the lates release of music the lates up coming artists and new issues in music. the magazine represents Latin social groups all over , it does this by talking about the movement of Reggeaton, a genre of music that relates to youths aged between 15-23. the magazine also offers people the chance to win prizes like photo shoots and concert tickets. these prizes relate to all types of young adults.

My front cover represents Latin youth. This is obviously seen due to the Masthead, the masthead represents latin culture and it gives the magazine a brand of music genre and a group. The front cover has an image of a young Latin female, this appeals to anyone who looks at the front cover and it shows that this article is aimed at females as well as males.t

In what ways does your music Magzine use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of existing music magazines?My magazine challenges existing magazines because it is aimed at young adults of a Latin American heritage. The magazine changes the way a music magazine is seen it, expresses Latin music and shows youths and people who are new to Latin culture an insight on how the Latin American music industries is progressing even to wider target audiences.
My music magazine is really unique because it offers upcoming artist who want to be known the chance to be interviewed and their latest single or album to be advertised in the magazine, they would even model for the front cover in the issue where they would be featured in.
My magazine offers Latin American youths to be noticed it gives them the chance to express themselves and to show people what the Latin American culture has to offer in Britain.
